Things you will see at Snowball Express: “My Mom is My Hero!” t-shirts, kids walking around carrying pictures of their fathers in uniform and later releasing balloons with messages to their parent in heaven.
Today has been one of those “pinch me please” kind of days. I have been given the opportunity to see the world and experience things people cannot dream of in a lifetime. Today, although bittersweet, was one of those experiences.
I am sitting on the floor in the Orlando airport (charging my phone of course), reflecting on one of the opportunities I have had to give back to the world. I just completed my 3rd Snowball Express Charter.
For those of you not familiar with Snowball Express, break out the tissues.
Snowball Express is dedicated to “Serving the Children of our Fallen Military Heroes,” since 9/11. A 5 day gathering is held in Dallas for the children and spouses of the fallen; with the help of thousands of volunteers and sponsors, children between the ages of 5 and 18 and a parent/legal guardian create memories of a lifetime.
In the past I have been honored to volunteer and fly the families to the event, but today I got to fly them home on Snowball Express Charter #3.
This year’s theme was Hawaiian, in conjunction with the “Moana” movie that has just recently been released. The airports are elaborately decorated to match each year’s theme.
If you would like to donate time or money to this fantastic organization, all of the information can be found on their website.
It was truly a humbling and incredible experience.
